The first part of this sketchbook is filled with studies for South of France themes of 1947-1948 such as vine pergolas, viaducts, 'Palm and House'. But then there is an abrupt jump to drawings of 1961-62, these later sketches include studies for such pictures as 'Noli Me Tangere', 'Study for a Waterfall', 'Path between Hedges' and 'Wood Interior'.
